As part of the Svarnim Puducherry’s water initiative of Sri Aurobindo Society, the desilting of the historical Bahour Lake was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Lt. Governor of Puducherry, Dr. Kiran Bedi IPS (Retd) on 22nd February 2020 at the Bahour lake bed near Aranganur sluice on Saturday morning at 7.30 am. This is being taken up with the collaboration of Mahindra Hotels & Resorts India Ltd (MHRIL - Club Mahindra) as part of the Bahour Water project. 

Mr. Mohanraj, Manager, Club Mahindra, Puducherry and his team, Mr. Manoj Kumar Agarwal, Director (HR & Admin), Sri Aurobindo Society, Mr. V. Chandrasekar, President, of Bangaru Vaickal Neeradhara Koottamaippu, Mr. Manohar, Commissioner, Bahour Commune Panchayat and Team RajNivas were present on the occasion. 

Bhoomi Puja was conducted at the worksite by HLG Dr. Kiran Bedi and she said that the coming together of Sri Aurobindo Society, Club Mahindra and the Bahour tank association for a noble cause is indeed a good model and that should be replicated everywhere. She asked Club Mahindra and Sri Aurobindo Society to focus on water management aspects of larger lakes in the future also. She later operated the Earth excavator herself and inaugurated the desilting process. 

Later talking to the audience, she said she will take part in a Water-Walk around the perimeter of the Bahour Lake covering about 8 kms of walking on the 22nd March 2020 which happens to be the World Water day. This will be celebrated with maximum participation. 

The Bahour Commissioner was asked to create a “Youth for Bahour Lake group” which will take care of the beautiful lake in a sustainable manner.
