Earth Day Celebrations

Earth Day is an international annual event celebrated around the world on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It is a great opportunity for awareness-generation, educational and action-oriented activities for environmental learning, and highlighting examples and ways to ‘go green’ by engaging the students in everyday activities to make their surroundings pollution-free and ecofriendly. On April 22, 2019, the children of SAS Rudrapur branch celebrated World Earth Day by making wonderful and unique drawings, paintings and posters on Earth and the need to protect it.

Workshop on ‘Discovering Yourself through Creativity’

A six-day workshop on Research and Discover Yourself through Creativity (painting, music, dance and poems) was conducted by Ms. Alena Demidenko from Auroville. A total of 20 teachers and students participated in the workshop. Some of the topics covered in the workshop included:

  • Explanation on twelve petals of the Mother’s symbol
  • Games to develop concentration power
  • Games to develop harmony and collectiveness

Participants presented through craft what went through their minds and hearts and kept it near a lit candle. Another activity included writing good thoughts on water bottle. Alena explained the importance of writing good thoughts on a water bottle by showing a video. She also explicated the the importance of perfection and presented this idea through a video on Russian dance. She presented one more video on ‘The Quality of Life in Auroville’ just to showcase the example of harmony.

Thereafter, the participants made a particular mandala which is a symbol of peace and goodness in Russia. Each participant made individual presentations on the behalf of their group, exhibited their paintings and expressed their frank views on each member of their group. Towards the end each group presented a dance and performed a song. To sum up, Alena expressed her views on her interaction with all the participants. The workshop ended with discussion about future plans and the distribution of certificates.
