Young Innovators Device Engineering Laboratory Camp

Start Date:20-Oct-2026

End Date:21-Oct-2026

Location:AuroVanam

Institute:Svarnim Puducherry

The Young Innovators Device Engineering Laboratory camp was conducted on 20 and 21 October 2026 for 15 students from Classes VII, VIII and IX. Participants represented AAAGMS, Muthrapalayam; IAGHSS, Muthrapalayam and GHSS, Alankuppam. The camp introduced students to practical mechanical skills, basic STEM concepts, and electrical techniques through guided demonstrations and supervised activities.

DAY 1 – CYCLE DISMANTLING AND ASSEMBLY

On the first day, students participated in a practical session on dismantling and assembling bicycle parts. They identified the major components, learned about the function of each part, and explored how the components work

together. The activity provided direct exposure to basic mechanical systems, tool handling, and the sequence involved in reassembling the cycle. All work was carried out under the supervision of a technician, ensuring that students followed the correct procedures and worked safely.

DAY 2 – STEM AND ELECTRICAL TECHNIQUES

STEM SESSION

The session focused on microorganisms, including bacteria and fungi. Students explored a handmade microscope model and observed microorganism structures using a real microscope. They were then introduced to fermentation and the properties of acids and bases. As a hands-on activity, students prepared bio-enzymes and discussed the basic process behind their preparation.

ELECTRICAL TECHNIQUES SESSION

The next session was led by a skilled electrician, who explained basic electrical techniques and essential safety precautions. Students were clearly instructed not to attempt electrical work at home or elsewhere without the supervision of a responsible adult or qualified person.

With guidance from the electrician, students assembled their own table-mounted night/reading lamps using PVC pipes, electrical wires, a bulb holder, a bulb, and a switch. The connections were checked and verified by the electrician before use.

Students then constructed an extension box using one switch, one three-pin socket, a two-metre three-core cable, and a three-pin plug top. The electrician inspected the wiring, and the power supply was checked using a tester under supervision. The students’ lamps were connected only after the electrician verified the connections.
