Dr Kishor Kumar Tripathy,Member Secretary, AuroBharati, Sri Aurobindo Society, Puducherry spoke about the objectives and mission and mission of Bal Samskriti. He highlighted the significance of World Teachers’ Day, celebrated annually on 5 October since 1994, commemorating the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. He emphasised the indispensable role of teachers in transforming education, nurturing young minds and shaping a better future for society.

Shri Sanjay Mohapatra, Principal of Sri Aurobindo Integral School, spoke about the principles of Integral Education and their application in building a sustainable society. He stressed that education should go beyond academic achievement and promote the harmonious development of every learner.

Dr Tripathy also delivered a presentation on the three principles of true teaching articulated by Sri Aurobindo: “Nothing can be taught”; “The mind must be consulted in its own growth”; and “Work from near to far.” He explained that education should facilitate self-discovery, respect the individual nature of each learner and progress from familiar surroundings and experiences towards a wider understanding of the world.

The workshop further explored the fivefold development of the individual—physical, vital, mental, psychic and spiritual. The discussion highlighted the teacher’s role as a guide and facilitator who encourages self-awareness, discipline, independent thinking and continuous progress. The teachings of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother on the teacher–student relationship were also discussed, emphasising patience, self-control, freedom with responsibility and the importance of helping students discover their inner potential.

To make the sessions interactive and meaningful, the workshop included demonstrations and group discussions on the principles of Integral Education and their practical application in the teaching-learning process. Students and faculty members of the school actively participated in these activities, sharing their perspectives and exploring ways to integrate the principles of holistic development into everyday educational practices.

The programme provided an opportunity for teachers and students to reflect on the transformative purpose of education and the importance of creating a supportive learning environment. It reinforced the vision of Integral Education as a means of nurturing conscious, harmonious and well-rounded individuals who can contribute meaningfully to society.

The programme was coordinated by Mrs. Charu Tripathy, Associate Director o Sri Aurobindo Society, Puducherry. The workshop concluded with a renewed appreciation of the teacher’s role in fostering creativity, integral development and a progressive educational culture.
