Start Date:27-Sep-2026

End Date:01-Oct-2026

Location:Kozhikode, Kerala

Institute:Sanjeevan

Sanjeevan partnered  in the Harnessing Compassion Masterclass 2026, organised by the Institute of Palliative Medicine (IPM), Kozhikode, a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Community Participation in Palliative Care. The masterclass brought together participants, facilitators, and practitioners from across the world, reflecting IPM's long-standing international programme that trains individuals from India and from low- and middle-income countries in compassionate, community-rooted approaches to care. The diversity of the gathering was evident throughout the sessions, with participants from several countries coming together to share experiences, perspectives, and practices rooted in their own cultural and professional contexts.

The Masterclass is held under the umbrella of the Global Fellowship, a flagship programme jointly conducted by the Institute of Palliative Medicine (IPM), Kozhikode; St Christopher's Hospice, UK; University College London (UCL); Sanjeevan Palliative Care; and Bangladesh Medical University. This year's gathering also marked the completion of the 10th edition of the Global Fellowship — a 200-hour online programme that has, over the course of a decade, reached participants from 60 countries, training more than 1,000 healthcare professionals and programme managers cumulatively. The Masterclass serves as an in-person culmination of this global online learning journey, bringing together Fellowship alumni from across the world for shared reflection, deeper learning, and community-building.

The masterclass combined structured learning with informal interaction, allowing participants to engage deeply with one another beyond the formal sessions. Group discussions, one-on-one conversations, and shared meals created space for participants to exchange ideas on building compassionate communities and strengthening care practices in their respective regions. Moments of warmth and connection were visible throughout the programme, from animated discussions between participants and facilitators to lighter, informal gatherings where attendees celebrated their shared commitment to compassionate care. The programme's emphasis on relationship-building alongside knowledge-sharing reflected its broader goal of nurturing a global community of practitioners united by a common purpose.

Partnering in a gathering of this scale offered Sanjeevan valuable exposure to global best practices in compassionate, community-centred palliative care. The insights and perspectives gained through the masterclass hold direct relevance for Sanjeevan's work in home-based and community palliative care, reinforcing the importance of empathy, dignity, and human connection as foundations for effective, patient-centred support.

Sanjeevan's role in the Harnessing Compassion Masterclass 2026 strengthened its engagement with a global network of practitioners and deepened its understanding of compassion-driven approaches to care, insights that will continue to inform and enrich its community-based work going forward.
