A national conclave on “Sri Aurobindo’s World Vision: Renewing Humanity through Spiritual and Cultural Renaissance” was organised by AuroBharati, Sri Aurobindo Society, at Matriniketan, Puducherry, on August 14. The programme was held as part of the celebrations marking the 154th birth anniversary of Sri Aurobindo, the centenary of Sri Aurobindo Ashram, and the 150th anniversary of the national song Vande Mataram.
The conclave brought together scholars, researchers, educators, spiritual practitioners and representatives of various institutions to deliberate on the contemporary relevance of the philosophy and vision of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.
Dr Ajit Sabnis, Member Executive, Sri Aurobindo Society and Chairman, Sri Aurobindo Society State Committee, Karnataka; Dr Kishor Kumar Tripathy, Member Secretary, AuroBharati, Sri Aurobindo Society, Puducherry; Shri Auro Ashish, Chairman, World Union, Puducherry; and Dr Sundar Murugan, Founder, ABAY NGO and eminent scholar, Puducherry, shared their views at the conclave.
The speakers recalled Sri Aurobindo’s vision of humanity progressing towards a higher stage of consciousness through spiritual evolution. His well-known assertion that “India is the guru of the nations” was cited in the context of India’s potential contribution to the spiritual development and peace of humanity. The Mother’s observation that “The Soul of India is one and indivisible” was also highlighted, underscoring the country’s spiritual and cultural mission.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kishor Kumar Tripathy said Sri Aurobindo and The Mother had articulated a profound vision for the spiritual evolution of humanity and the emergence of a new consciousness. Their teachings, rooted in the timeless wisdom of Bharat, provide a framework for individual transformation, collective harmony and the development of a spiritually inspired global civilisation.
Dr Ajit Sabnis highlighted Sri Aurobindo’s concept of spiritual nationalism, saying that it transcended political boundaries and emphasised the awakening of the soul of a nation as a foundation for universal brotherhood. He said Sri Aurobindo’s vision of human unity, based on inner transformation rather than external uniformity, offered insights into contemporary challenges such as conflict, environmental degradation, materialism and cultural fragmentation. He also referred to The Mother’s emphasis on integral education and conscious living as important means of nurturing a new humanity capable of manifesting higher values in different spheres of life.
Shri Auro Ashish spoke about the mission and objectives of the World Union in the light of Sri Aurobindo’s philosophy of Integral Yoga, evolution of consciousness, human unity and cultural renaissance. He said the organisation sought to draw upon the spiritual heritage of the Vedas, Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita to examine contemporary concerns relating to education, sustainable development, ethical leadership, social harmony and global peace.
Dr Sundar Murugan discussed the relevance of Sri Aurobindo’s ideals in promoting intercultural dialogue, global citizenship and sustainable development. Referring to the Indian ideal of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, or the world as one family, he stressed the importance of exploring the relationship between spirituality and areas such as science, culture, education, governance and international cooperation.
Mrs. Charu Tripathy, Associate Director, AuroBharati, Sri Aurobindo Society, coordinated the conclave Sri Aurobindo’s World Vision – Renewing Humanity through Spiritual and Cultural Renaissance: A Conclave was organised to commemorate the centenary of Sri Aurobindo Ashram and Siddhi Day, focusing on Sri Aurobindo’s vision of World Unity, spiritual transformation, and cultural renaissance.
The conclave provided a multidisciplinary platform for discussions on the enduring relevance of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother’s teachings. The deliberations focused on how spiritual wisdom could be integrated with contemporary knowledge and practices to promote peace, unity, sustainability and the collective evolution of humanity.
On the occasion, tribal leader Mr Akathaiyan Vishwanathan and representatives of various institutions also shared their views on significant social, cultural and contemporary issues.
