The vital question is how we are to learn and make use of Sanskrit and the indigenous languages so as to get to the heart and intimate sense of our own culture and establish a vivid continuity between the still living power of our past and the yet uncreated power of our future.

-Sri Aurobindo

The heritage of Sanskrit represents a vast reservoir of rich traditions and diverse influences that have shaped Indian civilization over thousands of years. In Sri Aurobindo’s teachings and vision, Sanskrit is not merely an ancient language but a living expression of India's spiritual consciousness, intellectual heritage, and civilizational wisdom. He viewed Sanskrit as a powerful medium through which the profound truths of the Vedas, Upanishads, and other classical texts were preserved and transmitted to humanity. As the language of divine knowledge and higher consciousness, Sanskrit has served as one of the foundational pillars of Indian culture and knowledge traditions. The study of Sanskrit language and literature offers deep insights into the philosophical, practical, scientific, and spiritual dimensions of life and reveals the inner foundations of India's cultural heritage and wisdom traditions.

Sri Aurobindo emphasized that ancient India possessed a highly developed system of knowledge that integrated science, spirituality, philosophy, and human development into a unified vision of life. India’s scientific heritage reflects remarkable achievements in diverse fields such as mathematics, astronomy, medicine, linguistics, psychology, philosophy, and environmental understanding. He believed that these ancient knowledge systems were not isolated intellectual pursuits but expressions of a deeper spiritual and intuitive understanding of reality.

The scientific accomplishments of ancient India have contributed significantly to the evolution of modern thought and continue to offer valuable perspectives for contemporary society. In the present context, there is a growing recognition of the need to rediscover and reinterpret India’s traditional knowledge systems within modern educational frameworks. Sri Aurobindo envisioned an education that harmonizes scientific inquiry with spiritual wisdom and cultural values for the integral development of humanity.

The National Education Policy (NEP) also encourages the integration of Indian knowledge systems through innovative curriculum development, digital learning platforms, and expanded access to Sanskrit resources and research initiatives. Therefore, incorporating Sanskrit studies and Indian knowledge traditions into education and research can contribute significantly to strengthening cultural consciousness and preserving India's civilizational heritage. With a focus on ancient wisdom and its relevance to sustainable human development, this conference seeks to explore Sri Aurobindo’s vision of India’s scientific heritage and knowledge systems and their significance for the contemporary world and the future of humanity.
