December 13, 2025: Energy Conservation Day was observed with seriousness and intent at the Institution of Engineers (India), Chennai Centre, on December 13, 2025. The event convened academicians, engineering professionals, and students to discuss the pressing necessity for sustainable energy practices and responsible interaction with nature.

During the event, Prof. Dr. D. Elango, Chairman of the Institution of Engineers (India), located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, underscored the significance of Energy Conservation Day as a national reminder of India’s dedication to sustainable development.

In his presidential address, he accentuated the crucial role that engineers fulfill in the design of energy-efficient systems, the reduction of carbon footprints, and the support of national missions focused on clean energy and climate action. He urged the engineering community to synchronize technical innovation with environmental accountability.

The event was honored by the presence of Dr. Kishor Kumar Tripathy, Member Secretary of AuroBharati, Sri Aurobindo Society, Puducherry, and a distinguished academician, as the "Chief Guest." In his keynote address, Dr. Tripathy spoke about Traditional Knowledge System (TKS), Energy conservation, climate action and Sustainability: Integral Approach.

Dr Tripathy presented a thought-provoking discussion on the theme of 'human-induced destruction of nature' and its direct connection to the current energy crisis. He noted that unchecked industrialization, excessive consumption, and the decline of ethical responsibility towards nature have resulted in climate imbalance, depletion of natural resources, and escalating energy insecurity.

Dr. Tripathy further elaborated on the views of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, emphasizing the idea of nature as a living and conscious entity. He addressed the human exploitation of nature, the need for ecological sensitivity, and the philosophical and practical solutions required to restore balance between humanity and the environment.

Stressing the importance of sustainability, he highlighted that energy conservation is not merely a technological or policy-driven initiative, but fundamentally a matter of human awareness and collective responsibility, in which IKS can play a significant role in addressing modern challenges. On this occasion, highlighted about the various initiatives implemented by the Government of India concerning energy conservation and renewable energy, which serve as solutions to the global challenges of the twenty-first century.

He also delineated essential initiatives for energy conservation, which encompass the promotion of renewable energy sources, the adoption of energy-efficient technologies, fostering behavioural changes at both household and institutional levels, and the incorporation of sustainability principles into educational and governance frameworks.

Dr. J. Balamurugan, Secretary of the Institution of Engineers (India), also based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, was in attendance at the event. The occasion saw active involvement from engineers, faculty members, and students, who participated in discussions regarding sustainable energy solutions and exchanged best practices.
