International Conference on “Bharat From Past Dawns to future Noons”

AuroBharati, Sri Aurobindo Society, Puducherry organized a notable event called “Bharat: From Past Dawns to Future Noons” on 25th November 2025.  This event focused on the lasting socio-cultural foundations of India and its potential future developments as envisioned by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. The program featured prominent speakers, scholars, and cultural thinkers who discussed the timeless spiritual heritage and cultural unity of Bharat.

Dr. Kishor Kumar Tripathy, the conference convenor and Member Secretary of AuroBharati, Sri Aurobindo Society, highlighted Bharat's glorious history and the future possibilities for humanity. He noted that India's socio-cultural fabric serves as a living movement to the integrative worldview promoted by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.

Shri Pradeep Narang, Chairman of the Sri Aurobindo Society, pointed out that the deeper insights of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother regarding India’s destiny as a spiritual beacon for humanity are becoming more relevant in today’s fast-changing world. They viewed Indian culture as inherently pluralistic, able to embrace diversity while maintaining unity.

Shri N. Rangaswamy, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of the Government of Puducherry, delivered a message of appreciation for the Sri Aurobindo Society's efforts in promoting cultural literacy and integral education. He emphasized the vision of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, stating that “Bharat transcended the concept of a mere nation-state; it embodied a living Shakti, a spiritual power entrusted with a distinctive evolutionary role.” They believed that India’s mission was twofold: “to rediscover its soul” and “to share its spiritual strengths with the world.”

On this occasion, a project report focusing on "Bharat From Past Dawns to Future Noons: Diversity of Expressions and the Cultural Unity of Bharat in the Light of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother" was presented by Dr. Kishor Kumar Tripathy, Member Secretary, and Charu Tripathy, Associate Director, AuroBharati, Sri Aurobindo Society.

Prof. P. Prakash Babu, Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University, Puducherry, Prof. Nihar Ranjan Biswas, Vice-Chancellor of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Deemed-to-be-University, Puducherry, and Prof. Vedvyas Jaiprakashnarayan Dwivedi, Vice-Chancellor/Provost of ITM SLS Baroda University, Gujarat, highlighted the remarkable journey of Bharat as a living nation for humanity in the light of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother for through their messages.

Prof Chaman Lal Raina, eminent scholar and academician, Shri Janmejay Mohanty, Trustee of Bharat Niwas at the Auroville Foundation in Tamilnadu, Shri Sumit Dey, Regional Director of the IGNCA Puducherry Centre in Puducherry, Shri V. Kaliaperumal, former Director, DAC, Puducherry, Dr. Sundar Murugan, Founder of ABAY NGO and a distinguished scholar from Puducherry, Dr. Randika Perera from Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine in Sri Lanka, Dr. Mr. Arsh G., Director (I/c) of Rashtriya Raksha University in Puducherry, along with other esteemed scholars, participated in the conference.

Plenary Session of the conference held on the theme Bharat From Past Dawns to Future Noons: Insights from Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. Shri Alok Pandey, Sadhak, Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Puducherry, Shri Chaman Lal Raina, Ideologist and Eminent Scholar, USA, Shri Lalit Verma, President, Aurodhan Art Gallery, Puducherry, Shri Janmejay Mohanty, Trustee, Bharat Niwas, Auroville Foundation, Tamilnadu and Shri Sumit Dey, Regional Director, Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts, Puducherry Centre, Puducherry spoke on the themes including,Five Dreams of Sri Aurobindo, Preservation of Sanatana Dharma: The Need for a Spiritual Renaissance in the Light of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, , Creating with Past Wisdom, latest Technology an original future, Bharat Nivas, the Living Space for India’s Future Renaissance, 'Songs for Śyāmā: Metaphors for Human Excellence through Tantra and Bhakti'.

The Academic Session was based on the theme “India and the World: Integral Vision & Sustainability” and the session was chaired by Dr. Kishor Kumar Tripathy, Member Secretary, AuroBharati, Sri Aurobindo Society, Puducherry. Prof. A. Subramanyam Raju, Professor, Centre for South Asian Studies & UGC Centre for Maritime Studies, Pondicherry University, Puducherry, Shri V. Kaliaperumal, Former Director, Department of Art & Culture, Government of Puducherry, Dr. Sundar Murugan, Founder, ABAY NGO & Eminent scholar, Puducherry, Ms. Paz Kalou, Freelance Consultant, Sustainable development, Innovation, change management, France and Dr Randika Perera, Lecturer, Department of Indigenous Health Sciences, Faculty of Indigenous Health Sciences and Technology, Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine, Sri Lanka shared their thoughts on the theme India as a global leader: Through the lens of Sri Aurobindo, Socio-Cultural Dynamics and significance of Bharat in Relation to Sri Aurobindo and His Interactions with Mahakavi Subramania Bharati, Sri Aurobindo and the Mother’s Teachings for the Dawn of the New India and the World, 'We are the sustainable development'' meaning  how to see and consider sustainability as the contact point between inner and outer worlds and Application of Integral yoga for healing nation and global peace.

As part of the conference, a panel discussion on the theme “Indian Knowledge Systems: Bridging Cultures and Communities through the Perspectives of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother” was organized which was chaired by Dr. Mathimaran Natarajan, Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Centre for Sustainability and Climate Studies, Department of Ecology & Environmental Sciences, Pondicherry University.

Dr. Annapoorna, Principal (I/c), Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam, Bharathiar Center for Performing & Fine Arts, Government of Puducherry, Mr. Netaji Subash, faculty from Rashtriya Raksha University, Puducherry, M E Krishnakumar, HoD, Tamil, Kanchi Mamunivar Government Institute for Post graduate Studies and Research, Government of Puducherry, Dr Nithiya, PTU, Faculty, Department of Philosophy, Pondicherry Technological University, Puducherry, Dr Sairam Sundaram, Lecturer & Training and Placement Officer, Women's Engineering College, Government of Puducherry and Dr R Kandhavel, Principal (i/c), Perunthalaivar Kamarajar College of Education, Government of Puducherry, Dr P Selvaraju, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Co-operative Management, Rajiv Gandhi Arts and Science College, Government of Puducherry shared views on the scopes and implementation of IKS leading to sustainability.

The conference also saw participation of faculties, researchers and students from various academic institutions, including Pondicherry University, Rashtriya Raksha University, Bharathiar Center for Performing & Fine Arts, Perunthalaivar Kamarajar College of Education, Government of Puducherry, Sri Venkateshwaraa College of Engineering and Technology (SVCET) in Puducherry, and Rajiv Gandhi Arts and Science College, Government of Puducherry. 

This international conference gathered academicians, bureaucrats, and policymakers from various organizations and focused on the civilizational continuity of Bharat from Vedic times to today, presenting Bharat as a spiritual-cultural consciousness rather than just a geopolitical identity, along with the diversity of languages, arts, traditions, and regional identities that enhance the vibrant unity of Indian culture.

The conference also tackled important topics regarding Sri Aurobindo’s vision of India’s renaissance as a crucial step toward humanity’s spiritual evolution, The Mother’s guidance on consciousness transformation, and India’s role as a beacon of new light for the world.

Through thoughtful analysis, they stressed that Bharat’s future relies on awakening its inner strength, cultural confidence, and spiritual aspirations—key elements for shaping the “future noons” of progress, harmony, and global leadership.

The program reaffirmed that Bharat is not merely a land of ancient memories but a living, dynamic force capable of guiding humanity through its spiritual and cultural wealth. The event concluded with reflections on collaborative efforts to enhance cultural understanding and promote the integrative message of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.
