On 21 July 2025, SARVAM conducted a specialised workshop at the Satyam Training Centre, focusing on the mental health of elderly individuals in rural communities. For the past 15 years, Sarvam has prioritised the emotional and psychological well-being of aged persons through various outreach programmes led by dedicated volunteers. This workshop marked another significant step in strengthening that commitment.
The session aimed to empower SARVAM’s volunteers with practical tools and knowledge for addressing mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, and loneliness among the elderly. The training was led by the Director of Help Age India and an Assistant Professor and Clinical Psychologist from the Department of Psychiatry at Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
The workshop featured the distribution of informative pamphlets, sharing of real-life case stories, and an engaging Q&A session. This interactive format enabled volunteers to explore common mental health concerns in depth, understand effective interventions, and gain confidence in providing empathetic and timely support.
Participants responded with great enthusiasm, expressing gratitude for the valuable insights gained. They committed to applying this knowledge within their respective communities to raise awareness and extend compassionate care to senior citizens. This workshop further reinforced SARVAM’s mission of creating a supportive ecosystem for the elderly in rural areas.
