Earlier this year, an MoU was signed between Sri Aurobindo Society (SAS) and Karmayogi Bharat, a Government of India initiative under the National Programme for Civil Services Capacity Building (NPCSCB).
Under this MoU, Karmayogi Bharat and SAS decided to work together in actively building capacity of government officials in India through iGOT Karmayogi platform in the Central & State Government for expanding digital skills. The details of the MoU were worked out by BhāratShakti, the department of SAS responsible for creating appropriate learning content for iGOT Karmayogi platform.
The first course titled ‘Money and Consciousness: Indian Wisdom and Sri Aurobindo’s Vision’ was submitted and has been duly published at the iGOT Karmayogi learning platform on July 16, 2025. The course includes three short modules and reflective assessments.
Details of the Course
The three modules of the course are titled:
- Indian Cultural Insights on Money
- Balancing Money and other Life Goals
- Sri Aurobindo’s Insights on Money
Each module includes a short video followed by a self-paced reflective assessment. The course also includes a short final assessment. All the details of the course were designed keeping the guidelines from Karmayogi Bharat in consideration. The videos were prepared with immense help from Auromedia, the media wing of Sri Aurobindo Society.
The course may be viewed HERE.
The video content of this course, researched and delivered by Dr. Beloo Mehra, integrates insights from Indian cultural tradition and Sri Aurobindo’s and the Mother’s teachings on the topic of cultivating the right attitude towards money. Sri Aurobindo and the Mother have given the ideal attitude that we must cultivate towards money, according to which we should neither turn with an ascetic shrinking from the money power nor hold a rajasic attachment to it.
Learners enrolled in this course will also find insights on a few additional questions: What is the nature of money? What is meant by cultivating a yogic attitude toward money? What insights can we get from Indian cultural tradition which can help us harmonise the necessity of material well-being with higher pursuits in life?
In the coming months, BhāratShakti department will be preparing more courses on topics relevant for civil servants. Our guiding principle when selecting the course topic and preparing learning content is that the material should help the government officials appreciate and develop a deeper spiritual perspective and rethink their attitudes on topics related to work and life.
Background of Karmayogi Bharat
The Government of India has implemented NPCSCB with the objective of creating a professional, well-trained, and future-ready civil service for India. Karmayogi Bharat forms the key pillar of the institutional framework with the responsibility to operate the iGOT Karmayogi learning platform aimed at promoting capacity development among civil services.
iGOT Karmayogi creates an environment of continuous, frictionless, guided learning for any official. By enabling a shared learning architecture, the platform allows officials, departments, managers and training institutions to cross leverage courses, other learning resources and competency testing arrangements. While iGOT Karmayogi brings the responsibility of learning to the learner, it also provides mechanisms by which departments and managers can guide, monitor, and mentor officials in their capacity development journey.
Outreach of the Course
Within 5 days of the publishing of our course, the number of learners enrolled in the course reached 393 with 329 having completed already. We expect this number to grow steadily. It is heartening to see this level of interest among the civil servants and other government officials.
These professionals are important pillars of the nation-building work, and as a New India continues to rise, it is critical that they develop a more India-centric perspective as well as appreciate a future-oriented psycho-spiritual vision such as the one we have from Sri Aurobindo. In this regard, we are happy to contribute to the work of disseminating the Light and Vision of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother while simultaneously contributing to the work of reawakening the innate Bharata Shakti.
