As part of its ongoing commitment to inmate well-being, the Auro Model Prison Project, in collaboration with Shri Ramajayam Trust, Puducherry, organised its annual Dental Camp at the Central Prison, Kalapet, on 7th May 2025. This initiative is part of a broader effort to provide holistic care and support rehabilitation through health and hygiene awareness.
The camp was facilitated by five volunteer dentists and four assistants, coordinated by the Shri Ramajayam Trust. Approximately 45 inmates and prison staff were screened and treated for various dental ailments including cavities, infections, and tooth decay. For many, this camp provided their first dental consultation, addressing long-standing discomforts that had gone unattended.
In addition to treatments, the camp also focused on creating awareness around oral hygiene and preventive care, encouraging inmates to adopt better habits and take personal responsibility for their health. The warm and respectful interaction from the medical team helped ease anxieties and build trust among the inmates.
The need for follow-up treatments was noted for several individuals, and a subsequent camp is being planned based on the availability of the dentists.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Ramajayam team for their continued honorary service at the Central Prison. Their commitment reaffirms the shared vision of transforming prisons into spaces of healing and renewal. The Auro Model Prison Project remains dedicated to this journey of dignity, care, and inner change.
