On the auspicious occasion of the celebration of the Birthday of the Mother, AuroBharati, Sri Aurobindo Society under the initiative “International Cultural Relations” presents a conference on the theme “India and France: An Analysis of Historical, Spiritual, and Socio-Cultural Dynamics and Their Relevance in Contemporary Society” on 20th February, 2025.
The conference titled “India and France: An Analysis of Historical, Spiritual, and Socio-Cultural Dynamics and Their Relevance in Contemporary Society” underscores the long-standing connections between these two nations. Both nations boast vibrant cultural traditions that encompass various elements, including art, architecture, heritage, language, and literature.
Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, prominent figures in the domains of spirituality and philosophy, offered profound perspectives on the interplay between India and France, particularly regarding their spiritual and cultural legacies. Sri Aurobindo's writings often highlighted the distinctive cultural and spiritual heritage of France, acknowledging its status as a leading European nation, particularly in philosophy, art, and spirituality.The Mother, Mirra Alfassa, maintained a profound affinity for France, having resided there for an extended period prior to her relocation to Pondicherry. She regarded France as a nation imbued with significant spiritual potential and frequently articulated her personal experiences and insights concerning the spiritual importance of the country.
These relationships can include a multitude of aspects, such as political alliances, trade agreements and cultural exchanges. A comprehensive grasp of historical relationships is essential for unraveling the intricacies of modern global dynamics and the enduring legacies that shape present-day international engagements.
As far as the India-France Strategic Partnership is considered, governments of both the countries have made substantial contributions to the enhancement of their ties, which have evolved from historical interactions to a strategic partnership. The roles of Post-Independent India and Modern France have been pivotal, shaped by both international and national contexts.
The international conference will explore the relationship between India and France, include historical and socio-cultural connections, strategic partnerships, economic orientations, intercultural understanding, and initiatives promoting peace and sustainable development between the two countries. Scholars and academics will engage in discussions and share insights on these themes.
The conference will be held at Sri Aurobindo Society, 11, St Martin Street, Union Territory of Puducherry on 20th February, 2025.
