Start Date:10-Sep-2024

End Date:10-Sep-2024

Location:Satyam Community Centre

Institute:SARVAM, Puducherry

On 10th September 2024, SARVAM Puducherry, in collaboration with CPCL, organised a one-day training on handling depression at the Satyam Community Centre. The workshop was attended by 150 vulnerable and elderly individuals. The programme focused on mental health awareness, effective coping strategies, and mindfulness techniques. Participants engaged in group discussions, skill-building games, and activities designed to enhance their social support networks. Additionally, personalised guidance was provided through individual speaking sessions.

The primary aim of the workshop was to enhance participants' mental well-being by teaching them how to manage depression more effectively. By promoting continuous mental health education and fostering strong support networks, the programme sought to reduce the incidence of severe depression and improve the quality of life for those involved.

One of the highlights was the active participation of mature and vulnerable women in play activities, regardless of age or caste. These activities, which fostered joy and laughter, significantly reduced stress and anxiety while offering a sense of community and belonging. They helped participants combat isolation and improve mental health by promoting emotional resilience. The women practiced vital skills such as problem-solving, creativity, and cooperation in a supportive environment, leading to greater emotional strength. Positive reinforcement during the sessions boosted their self-esteem and confidence.

The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the practical strategies and emotional support they received. Several attendees reported noticeable improvements in their mood and felt better equipped to manage depressive symptoms. The programme effectively contributed to the emotional well-being and resilience of the participants.
