With the support of the Aparajitha Foundation in Madurai, SARVAM Puducherry conducted a two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop on life skills for 30 volunteers under the "Thalir Thiran Thittam" scheme on 4th September 2024 at the Satyam Community Centre.
The primary objective of this workshop was to equip volunteers with life skills essential for teaching students. Life skills play a vital role in students' overall development, helping them manage everyday challenges, build resilience, and make informed decisions. These skills, which foster emotional intelligence and social competence, are crucial in preparing students to handle the pressures and complexities of life. The workshop was led by trainers from the Aparajitha Foundation, which specialises in developing and disseminating life skills curriculum.
The training included interactive sessions, supported by PowerPoint presentations and engaging intermission exercises. This format helped participants grasp the concepts quickly and retain the information. Volunteers were taught to incorporate soft skills, positive attitudes, and constructive thinking into their teaching, which would help students lead a holistic lifestyle and realise their full potential.
The volunteers appreciated the practical approach of the training, finding the sessions highly relevant and beneficial. Many expressed their intent to integrate the life skills lessons into their own lives and to pass them on to students. The training helped them understand the importance of these lessons in today’s fast-paced world, and they were eager to implement new teaching methods in their work. Participants also suggested conducting additional training to enhance their skills further and benefit the community.
Overall, the workshop was a success, with participants thanking SARVAM for the opportunity to learn and grow, both personally and professionally.
