On 20 June 2024, SARVAM conducted a training session at the Satyam Community Centre for 75 women, focusing on integrating herbs into their daily lives and making herbal preparations to enhance their health and well-being.
The training aimed to teach participants how to create herbal teas, tinctures, and salves. The women learned about the benefits of herbal tea for relaxation, tinctures for immune support, and creams for soothing skin irritations. The trainer also demonstrated how to establish an organic herbal garden at home, highlighting its benefits in providing a constant supply of fresh and flavourful herbs for cooking, which can enhance the taste and nutritional value of meals. Growing their own herbs would also allow them to control pesticide and chemical use, ensuring the consumption of pure and healthy ingredients.
During the session, participants prepared herbal tea using easily accessible herbs and shared their responses. Some found the tea soothing and refreshing, while others noted its potential health benefits. A few participants even shared their own recipes and tips for enhancing the tea's flavour.
The trainer also guided the women in preparing herbal saplings from organic manure, suggesting they start by selecting the appropriate seeds, preparing organic manure, creating a suitable environment for germination, and monitoring the saplings' progress.
Recognising the importance of further training in herbal product preparation for the participants' livelihood activities, the trainer agreed to provide additional sessions. The women left the training feeling happy and supported, knowing that improved skills in herbal product preparation could significantly impact their livelihoods. With increased knowledge and expertise, they may be able to expand their businesses, attract more customers, and ultimately increase their income, leading to improved financial stability and a better quality of life.
