On June 5, 2024, SARVAM conducted a comprehensive awareness programme across eight different village centres to commemorate International Environmental Day. The event engaged approximately 300 students from various schools, aiming to foster environmental consciousness and promote sustainable practices.
The theme for this year’s celebration was ‘Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience.’ On June 5, SARVAM conducted an awareness programme for around 300 students on Environmental Day through village volunteers. The trainers explained the importance of Earth as the only planet where life is possible and emphasised the need to be environment-friendly. In addition to promoting environmental protection, the volunteers highlighted the urgency of addressing current environmental challenges. Their message underscored the responsibility we have to protect and preserve our planet for future generations.
As part of the programme, students were required to clean the premises and separate organic and inorganic waste. By engaging in this task, the students not only learned the importance of cleanliness and organisation but also developed a deeper understanding of environmental responsibility. Separating organic and inorganic waste aids in waste management, promotes recycling, and reduces the overall environmental impact. The aim was to sensitise students to their role in addressing global environmental challenges at the grassroots level.
To further create awareness among the villagers, the students also participated in discussions, role-plays, and painting activities to commemorate the day. These efforts were highly effective in engaging the community and conveying important messages about the significance of environmental conservation. The students' creative approaches left a lasting impact on the villagers, successfully achieving the goal of raising awareness.
Overall, it was a great experience for the students to learn about the environment and the value of Earth. This experience broadened their understanding of environmental issues and their role in preserving the planet. It sparked a sense of responsibility and motivated them to take action towards creating a sustainable future.
