To commemorate the second anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) Division, Ministry of Education, Government of India
has initiated the National Programme on 75 Bhāratīya Games/Khel. AuroBharati, Sri Aurobindo Society, Union Territory of Puducherry is partnering with the IKS division of the Ministry of Education, Government of India to implement this initiative in schools across the country. As part of the initiative, an orientation program for the PE teachers was organized on 7th November, 2023.
The vision of Bharati Khel is “to transform India into a thriving sports-loving country, helping each child develop mental and physical skills.” Dr. Anuradha Choudry, Coordinator, Indian Knowledge Systems Division AICTE-Ministry of Education, Govt. of India has mentioned that the prime objective of to get students to play these games simply for the joy of discovering the game as well as to help foster a sense of national integration since many of these games are played in many regions with minor variations in name and rules. In this context, PE teachers from various schools were invited to attend the orientation program on 7th November, 2023.
The PE teachers will be required to teach the game to their students. They are then invited to participate in a national competition by uploading a video clip (3-5 minutes) on MyGov to promote the game, which showcases students playing it, including comments from children and their respective PE teachers on their experience learning the game and creating a motto that will excite listeners to want to play the game.
From the Sri Aurobindo Society side, Dr. Kishor Kumar Tripathy, Member Secretary, and Charu Tripathy, Associate Director, AuroBharati, are for the implementation of Bharatiya Khel in collaboration with the Indian Knowledge Systems Division. AICTE—Ministry of Education, Govt. of India.
