SARVAM conducting the English Access Microscholarship Program (Access) which provides English language training to talented 13-20 year-olds from economically disadvantaged sectors through after-school classes and intensive sessions.

As a part of the Access program, a music workshop was conducted by U.S. Fulbright-Nehru Student Research Scholars Alexa Burnston, Karun Salvady, and Abhi Nathan for Sarvam Access students on Sunday, February 12, at Sharanam training Centre.

This session was a comparative workshop of Carnatic, Western (jazz/opera), and Fusion music by US Fulbright-Nehru Student Research Scholars.  The students learned about each genre of music, compare, and contrast Carnatic and Western music through interactive examples, exercises, and have seen a demonstration of how they combine to create fusion music. They also explored how film music and acapella styles emerge and can be related to these musical forms.

The session was conducted in a practical manner and it was refreshing. The workshop was well received by the students, and they enjoyed it greatly. It was an interactive session where students learned how to create fusion songs as well as shared their insights on the process.
