Start Date:14-Jan-2023

End Date:14-Jan-2023

Location:12 Project villages of SARVAM

Pongal is the harvest festival celebrated in Tamil Nadu from 14 January to 17 January. In Tamil Nadu, Pongal is one of the most important festivals dedicated to the Sun God (Surya Bhagwan). On the same date (14 January), the festival of Makar Sankranti is also celebrated all over India under various names.

SARVAM organized Pongal celebrations for the children and women of Poothurai and the surrounding villages.

A total of 300 children from 12 villages and 100 women attended the festivities. They thanked the Sun God for showering a good harvest this year.

Children shared their views on Pongal. Women explained the traditional way of celebrating Pongal and how that custom is being followed to date. In the course of the get-together, Sweets, Pongal, and Snacks were distributed.

The students drew Pongal pictures and played some games to enhance their enjoyment.

Sweets were distributed to aged and vulnerable women in the villages.

Following this celebration, everyone felt a sense of hope after leaving behind all their problems and a sense of beginning anew.
