Desilting of ponds near Oomarankadu Eri

As part of Sri Aurobindo Society's Svarnim Puducherry initiative to make Puducherry water rich, a Water Literacy Project was launched in 10 government schools of Puducherry which is being catalyzed and supported by NCSTC, Department of Science & Technology, Govt of India. The objective of the project is to take "water" as a learning tool through various activities like rain water harvesting, understanding the science, sociology and ecology of water and its applications by hands-on activities to be carried out by children with guidance from the school as well as the communities. 

As part of this initiative, Sri Aurobindo Society has already completed the formation and desilting of the Oomarankadu Eri in Uchimedu village and as the next step would be desilting 10 ponds adjacent to the schools so that children could explore them and use them as a medium of experiential learning. 

The desilting of the ponds was inaugurated on 13th December 2021 at 10.30 am by Mr.Karthikeyan, Commissioner for Bahour Commune Panchayat in Panithittu village in the presence of Assistant Engineer Mr. Ravichandran, Head Master of GHS Panithittu and village elders. The pooja was also participated by team members from Sri Aurobindo Society.
