Welcome Participants, Ice breaking and Introduction of Participants and Speakers; Introduction to the programme and why it is being conducted and its importance during COVID 19.

3.00 – 4.30 pm

The programme will start with the following topics on:

  1. What is Malnutrition
  2. Malnutrition Status in India
  3. Child Malnutrition in India
  4. Anaemia among children
  5. Malnutrition and Anaemia among women
  6. Malnutrition among adolescents and Malnutrition among pregnant and lactating mothers
  7. What is Intergenerational Lifecycle of Malnutrition?
  8. What are the causes and consequences of malnutrition for individuals, community and society?
  9. Impact of COVID 19 on nutritional status (1 hour + half hour discussion)

Session will be conducted by Ms. Veena S Rao, IAS (Retd), Director, AURO Centre for Public Nutrition, Public Health and Public Policy.

4.30 – 5.30 pm

This session will focus on various forms of nutritional disorders as a result of calorie protein micro-nutrient deficiency and ill health faced during life stages of infancy, adolescence and for pregnant and lactating mothers; nutritional requirements during these life stages and the importance of immunization for children. (45 min + 15 min discussions)

Session will be conducted by Dr. Shantha Maria, Dean of Home Science, Mount Carmel College, Bangalore.

What are the various Nutritional and Micro-nutrient diseases, their symptoms and treatment? Indicators, methods and tests to assess nutritional status in children, adolescents and pregnant and lactating mothers. (45 min + 15 min discussions)

Session will be conducted by Dr. Tara, Former Director, NIPCCD, Bangalore

3.30 – 4.30 pm

Information on affordable energy and micro-nutrient foods and their importance for a healthy and balanced diet. How to prepare a nutritional diet with available resources.

Explain nutritional requirements during COVID 19 and its effects on children, adolescents, pregnant and lactating mothers, adults, elderly and sick. How to prevent dietary deficit during lockdown and post-lockdown, especially when the income and availability of nutritive food is scarce.  (45 min + 15 min discussions)

4.30 – 5.00 pm

Importance of Hygiene, Safe drinking water, Sanitation and Cleanliness. What are the current practises regarding these among families? How can they be improved? (Half an hour)
