This report narrates the experience of a participant of this workshop.

I recently had the privilege of participating in the ‘Decoding the Yantra: Sacred Geometry and Symbology" workshop, held from August 16th to 18th, 2023. Under the expert guidance of Vivechana Saraf, this workshop provided an illuminating journey into the profound teachings of Yantras, offering a captivating exploration of sacred geometry and symbology.

Throughout the duration of the workshop, participants were taken on an immersive experience that unravelled the enigmatic world of Yantras and their connection to Tantra. Vivechana Saraf skilfully led us through the intricacies of sacred geometry and symbology, allowing us to gain a deeper understanding of their significance and role in spiritual practices.

The workshop featured an engaging progression through three distinct Yantras, each of which opened a doorway into the realm of sacred symbolism. Before the creation of each Yantra, we were invited to pause and reflect, allowing a moment to focus on the deity associated with the Yantra and the power encapsulated by its symbology. This practice imbued our artistic endeavour with profound meaning, enabling us to tap into layers of significance that extended far beyond mere drawings.

Each day, we gathered our materials — a compass, pencil, colour liners, a straight-edge ruler, and blank A3/A4 paper—essential tools for manifesting these sacred symbols onto canvas. The use of these simple instruments connected us to the age-old techniques of geometry and artistry, allowing us to engage in a tactile and meditative process of creation.

Day 1: Introduction and Ganesha Yantra

On the first day of the workshop, we delved into the significance of Yantras and also heard from other participants about their aspirations and expectations for this workshop. We then immersed ourselves in the intricate art of creating the Ganesha Yantra. This Yantra, meticulously drawn with perfect circles, symbolised Lord Ganesha's wisdom and ability to remove obstacles. As we focused on Ganesha's divine qualities, I recognised the inherent balance and harmony present in the circular forms. This perfection was a reminder that even the most complex challenges can be resolved when approached with clarity and centredness. Drawing and filling the lines clockwise enhanced the intention behind our creation, aligning our efforts with the cyclical rhythm of creation.

Day 2: Saraswati Yantra

The second day of the workshop continued with more theory and background of Yantras and their meaning, following which this we focused the Saraswati Yantra. I was captivated as we begun concentrating on Saraswati and as I was concentrating there were orange fire-like eyes, which I was able to reflect on the bottom of the Yantra. This Yantra, composed of intricate triangles and circles, embodied the essence of Goddess Saraswati — knowledge, creativity, and the arts. The precision of the triangles highlighted the power of transformation and ascension, while the circles invoked unity and the cyclical nature of learning. As we contemplated the Saraswati Yantra, I understood that every line and shape represented a pathway to inner enlightenment and expression. Drawing and filling the lines clockwise imbued the Yantra with the energetic flow of positive creation.

Day 3: Bhuvaneshwari Yantra

On the final day, we explored the Bhuvaneshwari Yantra, a representation of the cosmic Mother and the divine feminine energy that permeates the universe. This Yantra, formed by squares and interconnected lines, evoked the order and interconnectedness of creation. Each square was a symbol of stability and containment, while the lines between them denoted the intricate dance of existence. As we meditated on the Bhuvaneshwari Yantra, I felt a profound connection to the nurturing and sustaining power of the universe. Drawing and filling the lines clockwise harnessed the cyclical power of life and creation, aligning our intentions with the natural flow of energy.

Furthermore, the choice of colours and the alignment of the Yantras with specific directions—East, West, North, South—added another layer of depth to my experience. These considerations allowed me to harmonise with the energies associated with each direction, further enhancing the transformative power of our creations.

Beyond the creative aspect, the workshop served as a gateway to expanding horizons and deepening spiritual practices. By decoding the Yantras, participants like myself were able to access a realm of hidden meanings and energies that underlie these intricate symbols. This journey into the heart of sacred geometry not only enhanced my understanding of ancient Indian wisdom but also provided practical insights into how these concepts can be integrated into contemporary spiritual practices.

Personally, I found the workshop to be a transformative experience. It not only broadened my perspective on sacred geometry and symbology but also fostered a deeper connection to the sacred deities represented by these Yantras. As Sri Aurobindo wisely said, "Every symbol hides a living power," and this workshop exemplified the truth of his words. Through the expert guidance of Vivechana Saraf, participants were able to unlock the living power hidden within these symbols, tapping into a well-spring of spiritual energy and insight.

In conclusion, the ‘Decoding the Yantra: Sacred Geometry and Symbology’ workshop was a profoundly enlightening experience. The combination of expert guidance, hands-on learning, and exploration of hidden meanings made this workshop a unique and transformative journey. I wholeheartedly recommend this workshop to anyone seeking to delve into the world of sacred geometry, symbology, and the spiritual dimensions they encompass. This workshop has not only enriched my spiritual practice but has also provided me with a newfound appreciation for the intricate interplay between art, geometry, and the Divine.

“I learnt to express with geometric design.”

“Very insightful.”
